Massage Open House Recap

Posted in Events, Massage at 1:58 am by melissalmt

I officially had my massage open house this past weekend on Saturday, November 14, 2009.  My main purpose of this event was to not only celebrate my one year anniversary as The Healing Sanctuary, but to also promote health and wellness to the community.  It gives other people a chance to find out more about massage and other wellness modalities to live a healthier and happier life.  Also, a great way to meet me in person and ask me questions about massage or how I can help people who have never had massage before, or looking at trying a new therapist.

We had a great turnout.  I had complimentary chair massages given by one of my LMTs; MonaVie representatives showcasing their fruit juices (which taste absolutely wonderful!  Their energy drink is my favorite!); a hypnotherapist available to discuss how she can help people overcome any mental or emotional obstacle in their life; a chiropractor to discuss the benefits of taking care of our spine; a Pilates trainer demonstrating the differences between Pilates and Yoga, and how it can help benefit us in the long run.  Last, but not least, I demonstrated a new technique I am learning and refining my skills on Lomi Lomi, a Hawaiian massage.  There were some raffle prizes: a bottle of MonaVie, a massage and Pilates combo session package, a gift basket by Christy’s Basket Corner, and a box of Sleep Neuro (it’s a drink that helps you sleep).

I didn’t get a chance to take a whole lot of pictures as I was busy talking with everyone.  So I’ll post what I have soon.  It was a lot of fun, and I thank everyone who participated in the event for coming and being a part of it, as well as the guests!  Thank you!  :-)

Susan G Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk

Posted in Events, Massage at 12:26 am by melissalmt

Last weekend, I participated with AMTA in volunteering chair massages for the walkers of this event.  It was an amazing experience to see how this event takes place, and to be a part of it by helping the walkers recover from their 60 mile journey.  I commend all of those who were a part of that weekend, and completed the walk.  It has actually inspired me to participate in the walk next year!  We shall see… :-)

The event was a success!  There was a huge crowd, and beautiful and interesting artwork.  Although my group and I were unable to leave our little section (we were busy!!), we had a great time.  Thanks to Jason Moriarty for having us be a part of this event and to my wonderful therapists for working super hard on our guests.  I didn’t get a chance to take too many photos, but here is what I got.  Enjoy!

October 4, 2008 – Cure for Cancer Race at Vinoy Park, St Petersburg, FL

Posted in Events, Massage at 4:56 am by melissalmt

Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  I volunteered with the Ultra Sports Massage Team to massage the athletes pre- and post-event massages.  I have never been to Vinoy Park, but it was a very nice race to be a part of — not only for the scenery, but the race itself seemed fun.  Sorry, no pictures.  I didn’t have a volunteer to take pictures of the event.

September 21, 2008 – Sand Key Triathlon, Clearwater, FL

Volunteered post-event massages to the athletes at the triathlon.  I had about eight therapists with me in getting these athletes recovered from their race.  We were so busy that we had to stop taking people two hours before our time was over.  It was a great turn-out!

August 24, 2008 – Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Event, Tampa, FL

Helping the families at RMH in their time of need while their children were in the hospital seeking treatment.  My colleagues and I volunteered chair massages to the families staying at RMH in helping to alleviate their stress and increase relaxation.  I am pleased to say that turnout was a success and that the families felt renewed and ready to be strong for their family.  It was a wonderful experience and I am blessed to be a part of their well-being.
